Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest footballers to ever grace the planet. He’s often compared to Lionel Messi and then the pair of them are compared against players from eras gone by but there's no denying that Ronaldo has been the best player in the world for long periods over the last few years, often with that title swinging between him and Messi over the course of a campaign. One thing that seems to be common place for Ronaldo though, is the need to continue to prove his doubters wrong...

So why does Ronaldo seem to have his critics even though he continually delivers the good at both club and international level? Well, the main reason this campaign has been the form of Real Madrid in La Liga. The Merengues started their domestic campaign with two wins and two draws from 4 and that was followed up by a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of Real Betis. Ronaldo himself had been absent for the first four league games due to suspension and made his first appearance of the campaign in the defeat to Betis. The European champions have then won the following 3 games, but many are questioning Ronaldo's abilities as he's only scored one goal over the course of 4 games now...
Ronaldo's Champions League form tells a totally different story though and in some way helps him to answer his critics, even though the reality is they should never have doubted him in the first place. In three Champions League fixtures he has managed to score 5 goals, including the equaliser from the penalty spot against Spurs the week just gone. He may not be hitting the heights in La Liga just yet, but Real Madrid are back winning consistently and have cut Barcelona's lead at the top of the table down to only 5 points.
The fact that Ronaldo has produced the goods for both club and country for quite a few years now tells you that, even when people are doubting him and his abilities, he's always going to step up to the mark and deliver. Up next for Zinedine Zidane's men in La Liga is Girona, and it will be a perfect opportunity for Ronaldo to shine in front of the home fans, after being named as the world’s best male player at the 2017 Best Fifa Football Awards in London earlier this week. The fact that he has set such high standards for himself is the reason people call his abilities in to question, but he's always silenced his doubters in the end by coming up with the goods when it matters; especially in important fixtures!
