04.08.2015 » Real Madrid 2-0 Tottenham. James and Bale deliver the win in Munich

Gareth Bale not celebrating his goal against Tottenham

Real Madrid defeated Tottenham by 2-0 this Tuesday afternoon in Munich, in a game where the Merengues were deprived of their biggest star, Cristiano Ronaldo. The opener was signed by James Rodríguez around 10 minutes before the break and Bale would seal the deal later in second half, with a great strike from outside the box.

Real Madrid wrapped up another win in their highly competitive pre-season this year, this time at the expense of Tottenham Hotspur and through a 2-0 victory. With Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema unavailable to give their contribute to the team due to recent injuries picked up in practice, James Rodríguez and Gareth Bale stepped up to secure the win for the Spanish side. The Colombian superstar scored from a header still inside the first half, while Gareth Bale scored a great solo goal to his old team when there were only 10 minutes left to be played in the game. Real Madrid will now face Bayern Munich this Wednesday afternoon for the Audi Cup final, but unfortunately, Ronaldo will still be forced to miss this game due to an injury in his lower back.

Real Madrid 2-0 Tottenham - Goals and highlights:

With neither Ronaldo nor Benzema around, Real Madrid had to rely in their midfielders' talent. It was a game for Isco and James' to shine and they made sure to leave their mark when they brilliantly fabricated the opener for the Merengues, around the 37th minute of the first half. It was also a special game for Gareth Bale, who had the chance to play against his old side for the first time since he joined Madrid. The Welsh scored the final goal of the game after a brilliant solo run and strike, but the truth is that he didn't really impress that much in the rest of the game in Munich.

In fact, everyone was expecting for Bale to do something special this Tuesday in at the Allianz Arena. Not only was he playing against his beloved Tottenham Hotspur, but he was also given a rare opportunity to lead this Real Madrid team without Cristiano Ronaldo around him on the pitch shrinking his influence...

Benítez lined up a quite technical midfield, with Kroos and Modric in charge to initiate most of the plays, while James and Isco were given the freedom to put their creativity on the loose. The result was a team that easily dominated the possession against a clearly weaker Tottenham side, even though they weren't always as dangerousas they could have been in the last third of the pitch.

James Rodríguez scoring from a header in Real Madrid vs Tottenham

The first goal of the game was beautifully set up by Isco in the 37th minute, after the Spaniard found enough space near one of the edges of the penalty box and sent in a perfect cross to his teammate James Rodríguez. The Colombian was left completely free in a very dangerous spot and he wouldn't dare to miss this golden chance to score his second goal of the pre-season. Very bad defending from Tottenham on that play, but a fair share of credit has also to be given to both Isco and James.

The second and final goal of the game arrived near the 79th minute of the match and it would be Gareth Bale finally showing off all his talent and power in a single play. The 26-year old intercepted a misdirected pass from Bentaleb to Tom Carroll already inside Tottenham's half, immediately moved forward several meters and then fired a rocket with his left foot that would only stop in the back of the net. A truly great goal from Gareth Bale and it's just a shame that we couldn't get to see more of these plays during the rest of the game.

With Bayern Munich's 3-0 win over AC Milan, the Audi Cup final will be disputed tomorrow afternoon, between the German champions and Real Madrid. Both Ronaldo and Benzema will still be out, but they're expected to return to the team in time for the friendly against Valerenga scheduled on August 9.
